The Student Handbook is your guide to the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program and Duke University.  It will inform you about the academic and practical aspects of MALS and facilitate your navigation through the program and administrative procedures.

A reference tool for a wide range of student concerns, from academic requirements such as the final project process to registration or financial matters, the handbook is intended to be the quickest path to an answer.  If, after consulting the handbook, you still have questions or unresolved issues, please call the MALS office (919-684-3222).  MALS Student Handbook

Without a doubt MALS has provided me with a new sense of self, purpose, and community. The beauty of MALS is that it offers a broad range of intellectually evocative seminars to students who have already acquired education and life experience. I am constantly challenged to reexamine everything I thought I knew. As a writer I can say MALS has enabled me to find and nurture my literary voice.
